Fire rated downlights are designed as a safety measure and will prevent the spread of fire. If you are unsure about whether you need to install them or not then think about the small amount of cost that is involved then consider what and why they are designed to do.

Fire rated downlights are made from or contain intumescent material, this material expands when it reaches a certain temperature sealing off the hole and slowing down the spread of fire. The fire is then unable to have direct access to the structure of the building.

Fire rated downlights are used to maintain the ceilings fire integrity. Part B of the Building Regulations covers fire safety and has been a legal requirement since 1987. Not all downlights have to be fire rated but it is important to know when and where they should be used.

When a recessed downlight is installed, a hole must be cut into the ceiling to allow the downlight to be mounted in. This hole reduces the fire integrity of the ceiling. In the event of a fire, flames spread through the holes and set light to the structure of the building. Most ceilings are constructed from timber joists which in the event of a fire, could burn and collapse in a matter of minutes. If the structure of the building is made from materials with higher temperature ratings such as concrete then fire rated downlights are not necessary.

The minimum fire rating for downlights is 30 minutes; this rating is for ceiling joists with a spacing of 600mm. This should allow enough time for the occupants to escape the building or for the fire service to extinguish the fire without floor or the entire building collapsing.

There are three types of structurally different ceilings:

1. 30 minute ceilings have ceiling joists with a spacing of 600mm and with one layer of 12.5mm plasterboard fixed to the underside of the joist.

2. 60 minute ceilings have ceiling joists with a spacing of 600mm and with a double layer of 15mm plasterboard fixed to the underside of the joist.

3. 90 minute ceilings have ceiling joists with a spacing of 450mm and with a double layer of 15mm plasterboard fixed to the underside of the joist.

Most fire rated downlights are suitable for all three types of ceilings but some are not and only rated for 30 or 60 minute ceilings.

When downlights are being installed in upper floor ceilings with roof space only above them they don’t necessarily need to be fire rated. This is because there is little risk of the fire spreading through the holes and onto the structure of the building. However, fire rated downlights have many other advantages. They are also approved to other important Building Regulations such as Part C – moisture protection, Part E – acoustic resistance.

Building Regulations now state that a room should be air tight, if you have multiple downlights that are not fire rated warm air will escape through the holes. In cold ceiling spaces such as loft areas, downlights act as chimneys and draw out the warm air from a room.

Even if you feel that fire rated downlights are not important for preventing the spread of fire then these other Building Regulations should be considered. Most adjustable downlights do not provide moisture protection or acoustic resistance.

To summarise, although fire rated downlights are slightly more expensive, they are safer, comply with the Building Regulations and may offer peace of mind.

Manual and Control Pinch Valves and The Economy

by

Charlotte Hupfield

Reliable service is provided by manual pinch valves to many industries for a large variety of specialized applications. Due to their rugged construction, operations can be regarded as heavy duty and demanding of equipment. The pinch valve mechanism is reliable and enables long periods between servicing.

The performance of every control pinch valve relates to the inner sleeve or elastomer inside the casing. It is a valuable component which enables the valve to control substance and material flow and provide the facility of a bi-directional, drop tight shut-off. The sleeves, manufactured from flexible compounds, are determined by a particular application. In many instances, the elastomer compounds resemble pinch in their composition and texture. A sleeve composition is an essential part of any successful operation involving the valve. To meet the varied and increasing demands of their customers, manufacturers provide different options regarding the varieties of elastomer sleeves, available for manual operated pinch valves.

The manual pinch valve is efficient and effective. It operates by using a squeezing process, activated by mechanical means or an external actuator. In the case of a pneumatic operated design, the valve receives directly supplied compressed air or fluid. However, the inner pinch or elastomer sleeve is the decisive factor in a successful operation, with emphasis on the quality of the sleeve or elastomer. The service periods for manual operated pinch valves are in many ways determined by the valve’s compatibility with the application.

In the wide and varied operational capabilities of control pinch valves; there are various application fields of fibrous and corrosive applications. This variety of valve is well suited for these applications, thanks to their ability to serve as a means of blocking and closing with ease. The valve is versatile, providing the benefit of manual operation by a hand-wheel, or automatic means. Increasing industrial demand for this type of valve is related to process plants, created by their seeking to improve production control methods and labor related costs.

Where pressure reductions below the norm are required, such as in the control of pumps, a manual sleeve valve can be designed to meet these requirements. As the valve has a near linear flow characteristic, there will be a minimum loss of energy due to the reduction in cycle periods. At the same time, there will be a reduction in operational costs during the lifetime of the valve.

Recognized widely as a manual operated sleeve valve, it is used within many industries involving various applications related to the control of material flows. The ability of the valve to operate in areas where there is a need to dissipate excess energy from a reservoir outlet, makes this valve an important factor in many specialized operations. Their general service is in circumstances involving high-pressure reductions. A control sleeve valve is a method of release or discharge into the atmosphere to a submerged outlet, for example underwater.

The elastomer of a flow pinch is located within the casing of the valve. A plunger device with a pinching component is located adjacent to the flow pinch, attached to one end of the plunger. A specified platform is situated in a position opposite the pinching component. The elastomer of the control pinch valve can therefore be pinchd between the pinching component and the platform. This in turn, exerts control over the flow of fluid through the pinch.

In the designated range of pinch valves, a manual operated pinch valve is particularly adaptable for use within applications involving the control of fluids with relatively low viscosity. Forming part of the valve structure is a valve block, with a bore capable of receiving a flexible pinch. Linked transversely and directly to the bore is a channel, at the intersection of which is a defined pinch chamber. The pinching action of the valve is actuated by a piston rod and a free-floating ball component, situated between the rod end and the flexible manual pinch valve.

Utilized every day, is the manual operated pinch valve, often referred to as a Ball Valve. It is a valve designed for use within applications such as sprinkler systems, standpipe systems or as a manually operated deluge control valve. A manual pinch valve controls the flow of water to small open headed extinguishing systems and operates as a zone control valve. Any reduction in pressures and turbulence interference is minimized by large ports, which provide a straight-through flow of water. The installation of this valve system is simple, with conservation of space and the provision of visual indication during operating conditions.

The control pinch valve incorporates a variety of valves, among which are pressure regulating or control valves. An important operation of these valves is the automatic control of water pressure under flowing and static conditions. The water and its volume delivery rates at the outlet, depends on the control pressure within the system. A constant pressure is maintained within specified limitations, influenced by the pinch equipment used beyond this type of control pinch valve. General recommendations are that this type of valve is utilized when a system pressure exceeds 175Psi.

Finding the Best Forex System and Forex Trading Signals

by

Chris Robertson

Making an educated decision, when attempting to find Forex trading software, is difficult when facing thousands of available applications. Each application is developed with individual algorithms, based on criteria that are not universal. In other words, every company selling Forex trading software has developed it independently. This leaves the customer to interpret which system is adequate, in a sea of many that are inadequate. Short of going back to the old fashioned methods of manually trading, Forex traders need to look for performance that stands apart. This will determine which application best supports the highest buyer standards with the ability to determine Forex trading signals and minimize the risk of losing money.

Find an application that gives Forex trading signals with live results. It is likely companies will brag about testing software against back results. This information is not sufficient when determining if a system is beneficial. The presence of live results is a key indicator when determining if the system is truly worth using and which gives the best Forex signals. Live results are in sync with a community of international banks, giving users more sources. Other beneficial products include those that do not use double understanding when determining the forecast.

Look at how quickly the Forex signal is dispatched. Users should have the ability to quickly analyze information with expedient results just about anywhere in the world. This includes information which assists the trader on the current status of the market for an efficient turnaround time when making a knowledgeable trade and interpreting professional Forex signals. This information should be user friendly and fairly easy to interpret when first using the system. This is highly important giving the liquid state of Forex trading and the ability to make money.

Look for an application that allows the user to fully automate a trade. It is of utmost importance to use software that gives the trader the ability to trade in specific markets or according to preference at any time. This automated trading should allow numerous trades in one transaction. This is highly important when trading in an international market with various time zones around the world and the necessity of determining Forex signals. This is really the objective of modern day Forex trading and moving outside of any type of manual trading platform. In addition, the system should allow the user to look at the trade in multiple time frames, indicating different trends. This type of system will allow traders to narrow down the information to key points, making analysis based on Forex signals an easier task.

Software should typically give the buyers a trail period of at least 10 days. When looking for software that sufficiently meets the needs of a professional in trading international currency, use the trial period. This will give the opportunity to determine any quirks in the software and if it is the best fit. This gives the potential user a better idea of the quirks involved in a system that is developed independently and the beneficial nature of its professional Forex signals. This is smart decision given the liquidly of the international currency market and Forex trading signals. Chris Robertson

Chiropractors often use a treatment called Gonstead to correct a problem in the musculoskeletal system. The only area that’s adjusted is where there’s a problem. A mechanically correct position and precise thrust ensure an accurate adjustment is made. This is done to make sure there’s very little pain or none. Misalignments are looked for and corrected which clears nerve interference and restores health nerve function. This type of treatment involves visualization, palpating the spine with patients in a static position and motion palpation or feeling the spine as a patient moves different ways. X-rays and instruments such as the Nervoscope are also part of Gonstead examination.

Vertebral Subluxation Complex is a change in the position of two vertebral bones. Muscles, nerves and tissues are also affected. Several symptoms occur when the spine becomes subluxated. Muscles may feel tight or tender and tissues can be damaged. When chiropractors use the Gonstead method called static palpation, they look for edema, swelling or tender tight muscle fibers. These symptoms come from compressed nerves or spinal joint malfunction. The motion palpation is used to detect difficulty in the segment of the spines movements. It usually is a subluxation if there’s no movement.

The Nervoscope is a tool that helps find subluxations, measures temperature differences on between both sides of the spine and helps the chiropractor know if a patient is improving. Inside this instrument is a meter. It has two probes that give a reading and detect heat from inflamed nerves. Blood flow is altered to the blood vessels in the skin when there’s a subluxation. This is what causes a difference in temperature. The Nervoscope is guided down the length of the back and is painless.

The chiropractor takes x-rays to help find the problem area in the body. These include posture, join and disc conditions and vertebral misalignments. The positions of the subluxated vertebrae are also noted which will give the information the doctor need to adjust the spine effectively. Other things can be ruled out with the use of x-ray such as recent fracture or pathologies or diseases. The entire structure of the spine can be visualized with x-rays. Visualization is often used along with other findings. Chiropractors have a lot of experience in look for changes that usually aren’t noticeable. They look for changes in posture and movement which could mean there’s something wrong.

All of these tools help the chiropractor find the cause of a health problem or symptoms. Sometimes orthopedic and neurological testing and laboratory analysis is also done. Along with the Gonstead treatment, the history of the patient is carefully looked at. This treatment is based on the intense research of chiropractor Clarence S. Gonstead and is used worldwide. It takes dedication and practice to apply this system so not all chiropractors use it in their practice. The position of the vertebraes in the spine is repositioned to restore optimal health. The Gonstead adjustments may be somewhat diverse according to each patient’s situation or condition. This treatment is known to be very successful.

Everyone can suffer from paradentosis. Your risk of developing the disease increases dramatically if you neglect to take good care of your teeth and gums. Some bad habits like excessive alcohol drinking and smoking are also contributing factors that can damage the soft tissues of the gums.

Paradentosis or periodontal disease is a painful disorder that primarily affects the jaw bone and gums. It causes inflammation on these areas that could lead to bleeding, pain, and complete loss of teeth. The problem is that it is difficult to detect periodontal disorder. You might be surprised one day that your teeth are slowly falling off one by one.

In order to prevent paradentosis, it is crucial to know how this disease can develop. You must also understand the symptoms so you can immediately get the help of your dentist. So here are the causes, symptoms, and available treatments for periodontal disorder.

The Leading Causes of Paradentosis

Lack of oral hygiene is one of the leading causes of periodontal disorder. If you fail to take good care of your teeth and gums, then all kinds of oral diseases, gum problems, and teeth disorders could develop.

Lack of oral hygiene could lead to bacterial accumulation in the mouth. The bacteria and other microorganisms will destroy the gum tissues and could weaken the teeth. If you have paradentosis, your gum tissues are already infected. This is the reason why inflammation and pain will set in.

Common Symptoms of Paradentosis

Localized pain involving adjacent teeth is one of the most common symptoms of periodontal disorder. You can experience stinging and chronic pain in the molar area. The pain can be accompanied by fever.

Another common symptom is inflamed gums. The gums could bleed and may feel very sore especially when you chew or bite food. In most cases of paradentosis, the teeth will become loose. You will be able to move them and it would be very painful.

You are probably suffering from advanced or acute phase of periodontal disorder if your teeth start to loosen. You can lose all your teeth if you fail to treat this disorder.

Cure for Paradentosis

There are different treatments available to cure periodontal disease. For mild to moderate cases, antibacterial oral creams or antibiotics can be prescribed in order to control and eliminate the infection.

In your office, the receptionist is on the front lines for your business or practice. Your receptionist will handle calls, route them, screen and point your calls where they need to go. In many cases, the receptionist leaves the first impression of your company and is a constant representative of your company. It is important the impression you set is a lasting one. Every call is potentially the most important call your company will ever get. If your receptionist can’t answer your calls or if you don’t have a receptionist and are using voicemail to answer the calls you can’t get, you need a virtual receptionist.

In today’s world with telephony technology, your receptionist no longer needs to be sitting at a desk in the front of your office. In fact your receptionist does not even need to be an employee. A virtual receptionist is the way to reduce overhead, increase efficiency and improve your image. The virtual receptionist is the most important component in today’s virtual office. Today, many answering services offer your company every benefit of having a personal, virtual receptionist. By definition, these are employees of the call center that will answer your telephone with your custom greeting and follow your instructions. Many times they can screen, announce, and transfer your calls anywhere, to your office, home, even to your cell phone. Your new “virtual” employee will take your messages, transfer to your voicemail, and provide the highest level of CSR.

With many virtual office services, you only pay for the time your phone calls are being handled without having to pay the extra expenses for a full time employee. This type of services lets you eliminate the headaches of having an employee including turnover, payroll taxes, benefits and absenteeism. You don’t have to worry about lunch breaks, employee relations and meeting the high cost of payroll and employee related lawsuits. Answering your phone is a critical component in the success of any business. Making sure your phone is answered and answered professionally is critical. When you look for a virtual receptionist, make sure they understand this and they take their job very seriously. They should know that missed calls often result in lost opportunities and lost revenue. Since there are so many companies that offer this type of service, make sure they understand how vital of a role they will be playing in your business.

When choosing a virtual receptionist, make sure they fit your needs. If you require calls to be transferred to your cell phone, office phone, or wherever you are, make sure they are able to do that and be aware of the costs. Some services will charge extra for this service (which is called call patching), others include it in services. You want to make the most of every telephone call. A live voice is always more professional than voicemail and is very cost effective. A virtual receptionist will allow your staff to focus on their jobs instead of just handling your phone calls and can be the greatest decision that any business can make.

Chapter 13 Bankruptcy is an option for people facing foreclosure. While it is true filing bankruptcy can halt the foreclosure process, it is not without risk. If you fail out of bankruptcy you will lose your home, so it is very important to understand how Chapter 13 works.

Also known as Wage Earner’s Plan, Chapter 13 is the most common type of bankruptcy filed in the United States. Chapter 13 allows people to retain their personal possessions including vehicles, real estate and other assets. Individuals who file are also able to reorganize their debt and repay over a period of three to five years.

Although Chapter 13 Bankruptcy is available to all U.S. citizens, certain eligibility requirements must be met. According to United States Bankruptcy Law U.S.C. 109,111, unsecured debts must be less than $307,675 and secured debts less than $922,975. Additionally, individuals are required to obtain credit counseling through an approved credit counseling agency within 180 days prior to filing.

The majority of people facing foreclosure are already under a tremendous amount of stress. Although individuals can file Chapter 13 on their own, most prefer to hire an attorney to represent them. Filing bankruptcy entails preparing considerable paperwork and specific forms. It’s best to work with a bankruptcy attorney to ensure paperwork is properly filed in a timely fashion. For those unable to afford an attorney, free legal assistance is available through state and county chapters of the American Bar Association.

The first step of Chapter 13 involves filing a petition with the Bankruptcy Court in the judicial district where the individual resides. The petition must include a list of assets and liabilities, current income and expenses, proposed repayment plan and proof of credit counseling.

Within three to six weeks after filing the petition, a creditors meeting will be arranged. A Trustee will be assigned to oversee the meeting. Creditors are allowed to ask questions and either accept or reject the proposed repayment plan. If a creditor decides to move forward with collection, they must file their claim with the court within 90 days of the meeting.

Once creditor claims have been filed a court hearing will scheduled. The individual filing Chapter 13 must appear in front of a Bankruptcy Judge who will review the repayment plan. The judge may either accept or reject the plan or make modifications to it.

Upon approval of the Chapter 13 bankruptcy repayment plan, the individual must submit regular payments to the Trustee until the reorganized debts are paid in full. During this time, the individual cannot incur any new debt without approval of the Trustee. In order to receive approval, the new debt must be necessary in order for the individual to maintain or improve their life. This might include the need to replace an automobile or obtain a loan for higher education.

Chapter 13 Bankruptcy has undergone dramatic changes within the last few years. With the skyrocketing surge in foreclosures, many people are scrambling to find a way to save their home. Chapter 13 may or may not be the answer. If an individual agrees to repay their mortgage payment and later becomes unable to keep their commitment, the lender can move forward with foreclosure proceedings.

Chapter 13 Bankruptcy is a complex and lengthy process. However, it can significantly improve people’s financial situations and help them get back on track. It can also keep people on an excruciatingly tight budget that leaves no room for emergency expenses.

Other options exist to keep a home out of foreclosure including loan modifications, short sales and Deed in Lieu of Foreclosure. Experts recommend communicating with the Loss Mitigation Department of the lending institution who holds the mortgage note. Bank loss mitigators oftentimes can offer solutions to individuals facing foreclosure that are not as drastic as filing bankruptcy.

Before making a final decision it’s highly recommended to conduct research via the Internet or by consulting with a qualified bankruptcy attorney. Additionally, Chapter 13 Bankruptcy manual and forms can be downloaded at U.S. Bankruptcy Courts at http://www.uscourts.gov/bkforms/index.html.

Assisted Living Facility Step 1

by

Rimme Wiker

As our modern era encourages far-flung ‘nuclear families’, the elderly are often left alone without any relatives to help them in the course of their daily lives. While they may still be physically capable of attending to most of their own needs, at some point, the time may come when living alone is impractical, if not dangerous. An intermediary situation between a private residence and a nursing home is an assisted living facility (ALF). In choosing the right one, there are many things to consider.

For starters, you must first learn what your resident state says in terms of the law. Not all states share the same definitions, nor share similar regulations. Only about half of the states license

assisted living facilities

. So right there, making a move from a private residence to an ALF, one may need to consider moving to another state.

Most ALF housing is semi-private, as it is more affordable and offers companionship. Many are private, one-bedroom apartments with a kitchen, bathroom and a living room. Some of this type are run more like hotels, providing daily cleaning and other services. Others are multi-bedroom apartments or similar to townhouses or bungalows. These usually house around three residents, offering companionship and shared expenses and chores.

For those with moderate medical conditions, a decent ALF should provide access to medical assistance. Usually in the form of a 24-hour hotline for a nurse. Many hospitals, especially larger ones, have both a nursing home and an ALF on or near their campus. A popular one here in the Detroit area is St. Johns Hospital, which typically does just this. Patients often transition from a hospital after a medical event, to a nursing home for a period of rehabilitation, and then to an ALF for long-term or permanent housing.

In selecting an ALF, definitely tour the facility before hand. Take note of handicap access. Are the rooms laid out for easy usage of wheelchairs or walkers? Are bathrooms equipped with handrails or even walk-in bathtubs? How easy are the beds to get in and out of?

Other considerations include availability of delivered groceries. Are hot, prepared meals available? Shuttle service?. Recreation and social services are also important factors to discover. Does the ALF have a recreation center? Beauty parlor? Swimming pool? Are there daily events like bingo, card games, and parties? Proximity to stores and needed outside services is also important, like lawyers, eye doctors and other specialists.

The maintenance and security staff of an

assisted living facility

are also important considerations. How easy is it to enter if a non-resident? If something needs to be repaired, how quickly and by whom? What other arrangements will the resident need to make that the ALF does not provide services for? If the resident still owns an automobile, is there a secure parking lot for it? How about the protocols for the delivery of mail or items via UPS or other private companies?

These among the major considerations one must take into account when selecting an assisted living facility. Naturally, the cost is also an important factor. But an ALF tends to be much less expensive than a nursing home. Especially if you have no need for constant medical attention or equipment and wish to enjoy a higher degree of independence, than an assisted living facility is the better option for those in need of some degree of elder care.

The choices are many, particularly in major urban areas. States governments that require licensing keep records of these facilities, so you may learn how efficiently they are run. There are records available from your state if they have a history of demerits and problems. Many can access this information on line or with a simple phone call when inquiring about a particular assisted living facility. As many will have a backlog or a waiting period for a vacancy, it is best to begin doing your homework as early as possible. Typically, it can take up to six months before being able to move in. So don t delay and start today!

UFC – One of the Most Popular Sports in the World

by

twelveplive

We have all witnessed that martial arts has grown in leaps and bounds. Several years ago, Bruce Lee developed his style of Jeet Kune Do and was instrumental in making the martial arts gain more popularity. He acted in several action flicks, showing the world his speed and elegance. From then on, movies have been a popular method to demonstrate martial arts skills.

Back in the early 1990s, UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) arrived with a bang and took things one step further. Although there have been other competitions just like the UFC, none of them had the style and dedication that UFC enjoyed. When it first started out, the UFC was a mixed martial arts competition in a true sense, since it paired fighters of different styles and weight classes.

The result was interesting battles with unpredictable outcome. The first ever champion was a man from Brazil named Royce Gracie. He introduced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the UFC by employing those techniques in the course of the fights. Following the first UFC tournament, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was instantaneously considered as the finest martial art. Royce weighed under 200 pounds, and he totally dominated people almost 3 times his size.

Royce lifted the winners trophy in UFC 2 and 4 as well. His dominant style during the tournament earned him global acclaim. He faced a very tough fighter, who nearly beat him, in UFC 3; but Royce came up trumps eventually. Gracie had an evenly contested bout with Ken Shamrock in UFC 5 which resulted in a draw.

Other fighters have done exceptionally well in the UFC, although none of them had the impact as Royce Gracie. Fighters such as Dan Severn, Matt Hughes, Ken Shamrock, Oleg Taktarov, and Matt Sylvia have also performed very well. Matt Hughes is regarded as one of the best fighters the world has seen.

The UFC has made a big impact when it comes to mixed martial arts. When it all began, there were no rules and no judges, just one on one bouts until someone either tapped out, got knocked out, or the ref stopped the fight by throwing in the towel. The UFC also had a tournament style where 3 fights decided the champion.

Over the years, there were several changes. After a few years UFC had judges deciding the winners, and the tournament style was removed. The fights eventually became one on one bouts, which was great for the followers. Although the fights didn t have time limits to start with, they do now. Title fights have five 5 minute rounds, while non title fights have three 5 minute rounds.

If there us no knockout or submission, the winner is decided by the judges. There are three judges, which normally change with each different UFC. The ref is there to protect the fighters. He can stop a fight if a fighter is unable to defend himself.

The UFC has come a long way, and is now one of the most widely liked sports in the world.

Are you willing to make it big at the UFC? You need the right training gear that reminds you of the task at hand. Look at our choice of
