Due to the damage by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding, a number of colleges and universities in the New Orleans metropolitan area will not be able to hold classes for the fall 2005 semester. It is estimated that 75,000 to 100,000 students have been displaced. [1]. In response, institutions across the United States and Canada are offering late registration for displaced students so that their academic progress is not unduly delayed. Some are offering free or reduced admission to displaced students. At some universities, especially state universities, this offer is limited to residents of the area.

The medical device design and development life cycle consists of three main stages: conception, design and development, and mass production.

ConceptionAs early as the device conception stage, factors relating to economic and production feasibility must be taken into account. Most medical devices will require mass manufacturing and this must be balanced against the implementation of innovative and cutting-edge product features. The planning and conception stage is therefore vital for the long-term sustainability of a project, and benefits greatly from industry knowledge and experience.Design and DevelopmentOnce a project has been deemed feasible, it’s time to develop a prototype. It can be a good idea to approach this stage with a risk-management mentality. Identifying the ways in which your device might fail or function incorrectly will allow you to design a product with patient care at the forefront of your mind. Ensure, too, that you are aware of industry regulatory requirements and the approval process you will need to submit your final product to.Mass ManufacturingAfter having designed your medical device, conducted clinical trials and gained regulatory approval, manufacturing can begin. If, at the beginning of the process, you spent time developing a plan, budget and identifying the mass manufacturing viability of your device, this stage should not pose too many problems.Standard Medical DevicesThere are many different types of devices that clinicians rely upon on a day-to-day basis to diagnose and treat patients. Whilst these devices may have been around for many years, all would have gone through the same design and development process described above.

ThermometerThermometers are used across all sectors and at all stages of treatment, from routine physical tests to emergency treatment. Electronic thermometers are a more recent development and minimise the time required to calculate the temperature of a patient. Electronic thermometers may be designed for a particular part of the body, such as the mouth, the armpit, the rectal, or the ear.ElectrocardiographsElectrocardiographs assess the electrical activity of the heart. During this assessment, heart rate and beat frequency can be recorded, these being the main two determinants of any cardiac issues. Physicians can also read an electrocardiograph to measure the size and location of each chamber of the heart. Electrocardiographs are used when assessing cardiac injury, and the effect and efficacy of drug therapy or structural implants.MRI MachineMagnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a modern medical scanning and diagnostic device. This particular device generates a low-level magnetic field that induces a reaction in the body’s atoms. The atoms within body tissues respond and the computer — connected to a scanner — measures these responses, transforming detections into a visual image of the internal functioning of the body.Medical devices allow health care providers to diagnose and treat patients, assisting individuals to overcome illness and disease. The design and development of a medical device — including thermometers, electrocardiographs and MRI machines — is a stringent process, reducing the risk of defects and playing a valuable role in improving patient quality of life.

by

Sang Amavisca

Desktop beat creating applications are all the rage today with aspiring music songwriters and beat makers. But the issue is with so many to pick to from, how do you know if a beat maker program like DUBturbo is beneficial? The straightforward way to answer a question like that\’s to think about the main elements any quality beat making program ought to offer.

1. Top quality Samples and Presets. This really is important should you hope to have any opportunity of cranking out a good beat. Free of charge beat creating programs have very limited presets and are capable of producing highest MP3. MP3 samples are alright if all you need to complete is always to upload your output to websites like YouTube, or if you are into home video production projects. But if you are a severe songwriter hoping to write songs and beats that may rival the large music production studios you are going to require high quality samples.

The other reason high quality preset sounds are vital is since they provide you with the alternative of switching backwards and forwards in between music editing programs like Pro Tools or Cubas. That\’s why prior to taking into account any beat maker like DUBturbo, 44.1 hz Wav file samples is really a need to have. By making use of business normal Wav files, you are able to easily edit your songs quickly even although switching back and forth among your music editor of selection, vastly accelerating the songwriting process.

two. Customized Drum Kits. You don t have the chance to obtain sufficient drum kits proper? Limiting yourself to making use of programs with either terrible sounding drum kits or just numerous kits to opt from merely stifles your imaginative abilities and in end confines the top quality of one\’s songs. therefore why choose a beat creating plan which restricts your skills, when you can use a method which has literally numerous kits to choose from.

3. Use a Sequencer As much as the Job. Numerous free beat making programs restricts your capability, by barely allowing you to create 4 bar or measure loops. Again this really is ok if all you want to complete is amateur projects for enjoyable or house use, but if you would like to become a severe songwriter you should a tool that can construct a complete song. A tool with a minimum of a 16 track sequencer lets you layer and edit out personalized bars or measures, you will also have the ability to craft and make your songs for bridges, verses, pre-choruses, hooks, choruses, and a lot more. Therefore why restrict yourself once you may use a tool that is up to the job.

Creating a unique music needs much time and manpower, but not in the virtual world. There are many

online beat maker

thet helps you creating music from nothing. A

An English lawyer has pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice. He faked a legal judgment and sent it to a father who was pleading in Taunton family court to be able to remain involved in his child’s upbringing. The lawyer, London barrister Bruce Hyman, now awaits his sentence. The judge indicated that he could receive a prison sentence. Bruce Hyman is well-known in media circles, having produced The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy on BBC Radio. He also produced a series with Clive Anderson, at Above the Title Productions, called Unreliable Evidence.

The father, a former City financier, had attended a series of court hearings in order to make suitable arrangements to see his child following an acrimonious divorce. Shortly before one of these hearings he received an email, ostensibly from a self-help group to which he belonged, which had attached a Court of Appeal case that appeared favourable to an application he had made for the judge to stand down from the case. The father, who was representing himself, duly showed the case to the judge. At this point, Bruce Hyman, the lawyer representing the former wife, claimed to the judge that the case was a forgery, which indeed it turned out to be.

After confirming that the self-help group had not sent him the email, the father then embarked on some detective work his own. The fraudulent email was traced via its header to a dial-up internet connection and a phone number belonging to a shop in London. The shop was able to recover CCTV footage which showed a man sending the email from an Apple laptop. The man turned out to be Bruce Hyman.

Sentencing of Hyman is due in Bristol Crown Court on the 19th of September.

Cronulla Beach in Sydney, New South Wales was the scene of racist mob-violence yesterday. In what has been described as disgusting, un-Australian and shameful behaviour, participants in a 5000-strong mob assaulted people suspected of being of Lebanese origin. The angry, alcohol-fuelled crowd also turned on anyone who tried to help the victims, including police, security guards and ambulance officers.

Following an attack on two lifeguards earlier in the week, allegedly by men of Lebanese descent, a protest had been organised via text messages and a small number of usenet postings.

Sutherland Shire Mayor Kevin Schreiber says inflammatory text messages calling for revenge attacks fueled the violence. Mr Schreiber said the heavily-circulated messages ensured troublemakers went to the southern Sydney beach looking for a fight. Police had patrolled the area all weekend after text messages began circulating among the community calling for vigilante responses to unwelcome visitors on the beach.

“The sending out of that text message was foolish and irresponsible and ensured that people from all over Sydney came to Cronulla looking to cause trouble and this was further fueled by alcohol,” said Mr Schreiber.

Sydney’s popular talk-back radio station 2GB also promoted Sunday’s event. Breakfast announcer Alan Jones has been accused of “fanning the flames.” Callers who recommended vigilante action were not discouraged to take the law into their own hands. Mr Jones, notorious for inflammatory comments, repeated the text message for Cronulla residents to defend their territory several times.

As the crowd marched along the beach and foreshore area, waving Australian flags, the crowd chanted racist slogans, with many wearing clothes bearing racist sentiment.

Middle Eastern men were openly targeted and assaulted. A young Muslim woman wearing a veil was chased into a kiosk on Cronulla beach. Police tried to move her away from the chanting crowd but were unable to reach the security of the command post. While the woman and police officers hid in the kiosk, a crowd surrounded the kiosk and shouted “Kill the Lebs”, while others climbed on top of the kiosk.

As police horses and special operations officers formed a line and pushed the crowd away, they were bombarded with beer bottles. After half an hour, an ambulance arrived at the kiosk and people were loaded into it. The ambulance, transporting six injured youths, escorted by police and police horses, was also bombarded with beer bottles. One struck an ambulance officer on the head. His colleague suffered lacerations to the arm.

On July 16, 2009, the largest skyscraper in Chicago, Illinois was officially renamed Willis Tower. Willis Group Holdings became a major tenant of the building in March, 2009. As part of the deal whereby they agreed to lease 140,000 square feet of the building, they were given the naming rights to the tower, which had been known as the Sears Tower since its opening in 1973. It is the largest skyscraper in the United States and was for a time the largest skyscraper in the world; though it has since been surpassed.

Sears, Roebuck and Company owned the building from its conception until it sold it in 1994. It is currently owned by American Landmark Properties of Skokie, Illinois. Sears had mostly moved out of the building by 1992, and closed its last offices there by 1995. However, they retained the naming rights until 2003. Since no deal had been worked out to rename the building by that date, it retained the Sears Tower name until Willis Group Holdings negotiated the naming rights as part of their lease on the building. The naming rights did not cost Willis any additional money, and they will retain those rights until at least 2024.

Willis Group Holdings is a London-based insurance company, incorporated in Bermuda. They are leasing 140,000 square feet of the building at a rate of $14.50 per square foot, and are consolidating their five Chicago-area offices to the new space.

Though lettering on the building had been changed on July 15, the official change did not occur until July 16, during a private ceremony involving 500 Willis employees and invited guests. The date and time name change was kept quiet until the actual lettering was changed, though the change was anticipated for several months. The tourist areas to the building, which includes a 103rd floor observation deck, will retain its current name, Skydeck Chicago.

The renaming has received some criticism from columnists in local papers, such as the Chicago Tribune, as Willis has almost no name recognition in the Chicago area. Several local residents have expressed their displeasure in the renaming, including one who started the website www.itsthesearstower.com. Chicago Historical Society senior curator John Russick has stated of the name change, “The Sears Tower has been an icon here for the last quarter of a century. For the generation that grew up calling it the Sears Tower, it’ll be hard for people to shift and start calling it something else.”

Obtaining a Building Permit Application Miami FL can be a complex process. If the applicant forgets one piece of documentation that can mean that the permit will be rejected. If the applicant begins a project without the necessary permits in place they can face a hefty fine and stop work order. To make matters even more complex, federal, state, county and city officials all have different procedures and submission requirements. Usually one person on a team, often a lawyer is in charge of making sure that the paperwork is filed in the proper sequence at the right office.

However the lawyer isn’t the person that can fill out complex environmental and construction documents. It requires a team of engineers, hydrologists, environmental scientists, landscape architects and architects to complete a plan for just a small residential or commercial development. That plan must then be put in the appropriate format for dozens of different permitting agencies. Each of these agencies has a different authority to review the plan. There can also be a proper sequence of review. One agency must approve the plan before a second agency can act.

A development company can have dozens of outstanding projects under review at any one time. The developer may decide that he wants to focus on the building and marketing of projects. He can hire a permit expediting company to shepherd his projects through the Building Permit Application Miami FL process. The professionals at these companies are often former regulators who helped write and enforce these regulatory processes.

They have a staff dedicated to walking permits to all of the different offices. They are the ones who stand in line to get the appropriate submission stamps on each page of the plan. All of this information is carefully kept in binders and entered into software designed for this process. The developer can check the progress of any of his projects by logging into the company website. Of course there is a project manager that he can speak with at any time. That project manager makes sure that no deadlines are missed and any questions about the application are answered promptly. This ensures the fastest possible path through a complex regulatory maze.

Ikeda Kanako, a 21-year-old senior student of the Meiji Gakuin University and the first daughter of celebrity surgeon Yuko Ikeda, was kidnapped at about 1225 (UTC+9), June 26, 2006, in Shibuya, Tokyo.

A bullet was fired and one officer slightly cut when police stormed a Kawasaki apartment to rescue the girl.

Kanako was dressed in a white light half-sleeved cardigan, blue jeans with a bistre belt made of leather, a spring green camisole and carried a bag of Vuitton when she was abducted at a bus stop.

She was found unharmed 13 hours later by Japanese police at a condominium located in Nakahara-ku, Kawasaki, Kanagawa. The young woman’s make-up was not disordered; Kanako’s long brown fringe was not disheveled at all and she was wearing what she had been when she was kidnapped.

The kidnapping of Kanako was a big story in Japanese media in June, 2006. The story appeared in many newspapers as the front-page news on June 27, 2006.

Kanako and her kidnappers had been in touch with her mother using Kanako’s mobile phone. The effort to free her was helped greatly by a woman who witnessed the moment Kanako was taken; she wrote down the license plate of the van and other details.

Police traced mobile phone calls and were able to locate the van in Kawasaki where they detained two of the kidnappers as they went shopping.

One conspirator Li Yong, 29, from China, led the policemen to the apartment and tricked Kaneo Ito, 49, from Japan, to open the door. Ito managed to discharge one bullet before being restrained by an assistant police inspector, the first man in the room.

The other man involved in the kidnap of Kanako was Choi Gi Ho, 54, from South Korea. Kanato was freed unharmed.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested three men on suspicion of conspiring to kidnap a woman and hold her to a reported 300 million yen ransom.

Erica Powell OBE, who was the Private Secretary to Kwame Nkrumah, President of Ghana and later to Siaka Stevens, President of Sierra Leone, died last month at the age of 86. She died at Peterborough on June 5, 2007. She was made an MBE in 1958 and OBE in 1960.

Erica was born on March 15, 1921 at Brighton in Sussex England into a middle class family. She trained as a secretary and then as a teacher. She worked with Barclays Bank during World War II. She was the top candidate in the 1940 London Chamber of Commerce Shorthand and Typewriting exams.

In February 1952, the Crown Agents for the Colonies offered her the position of “Private Secretary (Female)/Gold Coast” which later became the title of her autobiography. She ended up working as the Private Secretary to the Governor of the Gold Coast, Sir Charles Arden-Clarke. While working for the Governor, she became a close friend and confidant of Kwame Nkrumah, then bidding for Ghana’s independence from the United Kingdom. Her closeness to Nkrumah led to her being dismissed in 1954 and being sent back to the UK.

Powell returned in January 1955 to work for Kwame Nkrumah, a position she held till 1965, a year before his overthrow. Her close relationship and loyalty to Nkrumah bred a lot of rumours both in Ghana and the UK. It also brought a lot of resentment from various quarters. She kept in contact with Nkrumah while he was in exile in Guinea until his death in April, 1972.

She later worked for Siaka Stevens as his private secretary from 1970 to 1979. She attended Nkrumah’s funeral in 1972 as part of the official Sierra Leone delegation.
