This article features in a News Brief from Audio Wikinews:

Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota signed a bill into law on Thursday that requires the state to generate a significant amount of its energy needs from renewable sources.

The amount of power generated by wind turbines in the state stands now at 895 megawatts. An additional 5,000 megawatts of energy from renewable sources will need to be added to Minnesota’s electricity resources, which is roughly eight times more than the amount that currently comes from renewables.

The bill signed by the Governor requires energy companies to provide 25 percent of power from renewable sources by 2025.

Xcel Energy, which supplies approximately half of the electricity in the state, is required to provide 30 percent from renewable sources by 2020.

Ironmongery Understanding the Basics Brackets

by

Stuart Ross

We use items of ironmongery numerous times a day in our busy lifestyles, often without realizing their presence. They play an important role in our day-to-day lives and often their presence only becomes apparent when a problem arises.

The average person usually does not require an in-depth knowledge of ironmongery and hardware products, although wherever possible it is useful to understand the basics.

In this article we aim to briefly describe what a bracket is, how it works and what makes a good bracket.

What is a bracket?

A bracket is a device of simple rigid structure, one arm of which is fixed to a vertical surface, the other projecting horizontally to support a shelf or a handrail or other weight. For example a shelf bracket supports a shelf and a handrail bracket supports a handrail.

How does a bracket work?

A bracket transfers the load acting downwards upon a horizontal plane to a supporting structure in the vertical plane. (An example is the weight of a horizontal shelf being transferred to a vertical wall).

A bracket is a weight-bearing structural unit with two sides (or arms) that form a right angle.

One side, the horizontal accepts the load from the horizontal surface (i.e. shelf) that it is supporting. The other is vertical and transfers the load to the vertical surface to which it is fixed (i.e. wall).

The position where the horizontal and vertical arms meet (the vertex) needs to be strong and should be able to accept and transfer the load that it supports.

Larger brackets may have a third diagonal supporting brace that reduces load on the arms by transferring a proportion of the load from the horizontal arm to the vertical arm.

What makes a good bracket?

A good bracket will have the following properties:

The horizontal arm should be large and strong enough to accept the load and transfer it to the vertex or point at which the sides of the angle intersect.

The vertex should be strong and free of any imperfections, as it is this point that bears the maximum load.

The vertical arm should align properly with the vertical surface to which it is fixed to transfer the load correctly.

For heavy loads it is preferable to use a bracket with a third diagonal arm that will share and transfer a proportion of the load.

The vertical arm will have pre-drilled holes to enable fixing using screws. In some cases the horizontal arm will also have pre-drilled holes for securing the load it supports.

The correct size screws should always be used, making sure that the screw head sits flush within the arm.

Brackets are available in a multitude of finishes for both indoor and outdoor use in a range of contemporary and traditional designs.

While aesthetics are important when selecting a bracket careful consideration should also be given to its function, ensuring that the bracket is both large and strong enough for the purpose required.

An adequately strong, good looking, properly fitted shelf bracket or a handrail bracket is a great style statement for interiors and exteriors.

The Iranian police forces have faced criticism from Ayatollah Hashemi Shahrudi, the head of the judiciary who was appointed by Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, for their re-invigorated campaign to do away with un-Islamic dress.

Ayatollah Shahroudi proclaimed, “Tough measures on social problems will backfire and have counter-productive effects.” Others have, of course, made it clear that un-Islamic dress can lead to moral corruption, engender innumerable vices, and hurt the Islamic character of the nation.

Some believe that no one had any issue with the creation of an Islamic atmosphere. The core of the matter revolves around the implementation of the Islamic dress code; additionally, heavy-handed measures should be shunned. For instance, Mehdi Ahmadi, information head of Tehran’s police, told Al Jazeera: “Some citizens may complain about the way the law is being enforced but they all agree with the plan itself.”

According to one student, “You simply can’t tell people what to wear. They don’t understand that use of force only brings hatred towards them, not love.” Nevertheless, Hojatoll-Islam Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi, Iran’s interior minister who is in charge of policing, prognosticated positive feedback from the populace when he said, “People are unhappy with the social and moral status of the society. They expect that the fight against social insecurity be properly implemented.” Thus, Hujjat al-Islam Pour-Mohammadi re-iterated the necessity of proper implementation and methodology towards the restoration of morality in the Islamic Republic. Islamic officials and religious people affirm that this is indispensable to promote righteousness, curb sin, and bring open sinners to justice.

Following the Islamic Revolution in 1979, hijab became mandatory in Iran for every woman including foreigners after over 98% of citizens voted for an Islamic government. Women may face caning up to 74 strokes for failing to observe hijab. In this recent crackdown, the authorities have arrested many citizens throughout the country. Not only have women been taken into custody for their hair being uncovered on their foreheads and tight clothes that show body shapes, For men they need to cover from knee to their waist as according to Sharia. Even a foreign journalist was detained because the photograph on her press card was indecent.

It has not been clear whence the directive for the re-newed clampdown emanated. Some have blamed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad while Gholam Hossein Elham, the government spokesman, stated to reporters, “The police work as agents of the judiciary to confront crimes. The government as an executive body does not interfere in the affairs of the judiciary.” The following pre-election speech seems to corroborate this latter statement:

In reality, is the problem of our people the shape of the hair of our children? Let our children arrange their hair any way they wish. It doesn’t concern me and you. Let you and me overhaul the basic problems of the nation. The government should fix the economy of the nation and improve its atmosphere…[It should] better psychological security and support the people. People have variegated tastes. As if now the arch obstacle of our nation is the arrangement of our kids’ hair and the government disallowing them <He chuckles>. Is this the government’s responsibility? Is this the people’s merit? In actuality, this is the denigration of our people. Why do you underestimate and belittle the people? It is the real issue of our nation that one of our daughters donned a certain dress? Is this the issue of our nation and the problem of our nation?

Don t worry, the subject of the matter here is primarily yourself and this isn t about manipulation per se – but instead reprogramming your mind and positioning it so that it brings about success for you in all you do by letting you take back control of life from a subconscious mind that is irate, negative and honed by a lifetime of bad worldly experiences. This is subliminal technology – technology that gives you the tools to mould your mind to the shape you want it to be in. We call it psychological manipulation with subliminal technology but we should actually name it regaining the power of your mind – because this is exactly what this article is talking about.

I ll concentrate on aspects of technology like flash messages and subliminal sounds engineered with low level messages and sounds designed to reprogram the mind. What they do in fact is either break down the wall of conscious thinking or just bypass it and get right to the core that matters – the subconscious. In summary, the conscious mind is the one that we are aware of – the still small voice in our head comes from it and it is the sponge that absorbs messages from the world, direct or indirect and uses it to build your character, your attitudes and your state of minds. While it does go deeper than that, that is the basic gist of the idea. The subconscious takes instruction directly from the conscious mind and is the machinery that drives the human spirit and the human soul.

We get lazy because of our subconscious. We stay constantly so because of our subconscious. Our character defects and our bad habits are all due to the subconscious mind perpetuating it into a routine that we sometimes do not feel or just deny completely. So what happens? Well we need to reprogram our mind, cleaning the dirt and mental grime that has clogged it up. The brush and the broom would be these subliminal technologies that get straight to the heart of the matter.

Inserting the messages directly means that we are trumping the conscious mind and putting in the instructions that we want to straight into the subconscious mind. Instantly they begin to get recruited into the neural matrix and reproduced within the cortex and cerebrum of our mind, piggy backing on electrical impulses and delivered to every part of our body. This excellent delivery system means that the messages that tell us to stop smoking, tell us that eating too much is bad, tell us that we have to be happy and positive – get wired into our nature and wired into our everyday lives.

This is the positive kind of psychological manipulation that subliminal technology can bring about. Somewhere in there is the latent potential to be smarter, tougher, more ambitious and more driven in life – healthier and happier and it can be unlocked with the use of subliminal technology, technology that is easily available on the internet.

On Sunday, Manchester United announced the loan of their Spanish goalkeeper Víctor Valdés to Belgian club Standard Liège for the rest of the season.

Last year, Valdés signed an 18-month contract with the English club, but the three-time UEFA Champions League winner was given very little opportunity at Old Trafford. He made only two appearances for The Reds last season, after David de Gea was injured. Relations between Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal and Valdés were not good. Van Gaal did not pick him for the pre-season tour to the United States, saying Valdés was unwilling to play a game with the under-21 team.

This season, Valdés was not allowed in the locker room, and van Gaal prevented him from training with the main squad and the under-21 team. The official team photograph omitted him.

Valdés was a member of Spain’s squad for the World Cup in 2010 and for Euro 2012, collecting a winner’s medal both times. Per Manchester United’s statement, “Manchester United and Standard Liege have reached agreement for the temporary transfer of goalkeeper Victor Valdes, effective until the end of the current season. The deal is subject to formalities being completed.”

On Instagram, he posted a photo that read “Thank you all for your support during these months of hard work for me, i will never forget! See you soon!”
