Wikinews has obtained a list of middle management teaching staff allegedly made redundant, or laid off due to restructuring, by Sunshine Coast Grammar School (SCGS), in Queensland, Australia. Sources say that those staff have been told that they can apply for new positions that have opened up.

The list, published on the SCGS alumni Facebook page, contains the names of twenty-two staff members, eight of which taught this article’s primary contributor. Seventeen positions are reportedly being opened up by the private Christian school, eight of which seem to significantly overlap the old ones.

The changes are, apparently, designed to get teachers back into the classroom. “We are not cutting subject choices and extracurricular activities, but retaining a student-driven curriculum that integrates with the new Australian Curriculum, in keeping with our commitment to teaching and learning opportunities,” said headmaster Nigel Fairbairn.

Fairbairn could not guarantee that any of the staff would be given a position in 2011. “That will depend on how many people on that list apply for new positions of responsibility and are successful,” he said.

“The Head of the School cannot guarantee the 21 staff a job at the School in the future, with many of the positions being advertised to external applicants,” said Terry Burke, secretary for the Independent Education Union of Australia Queensland branch (Queensland Independent Education Union, QIEU).

“There has been little or no consultation with affected staff, who should not have to reapply for their jobs,” he said. “Most of the proposed restructuring is highly questionable and places at risk the high quality education at the School.”

Some former students responded angrily to the news.

Four of the affected teachers “were the backbone of the school when [controversy surrounded founding headmaster John Burgess] happened,” a former prefect (student leader) said. “They got it through that crisis and this is the thanks they get.”

“People are angry and shocked,” they continued. “I am aware of at least 10 families who have said they will pull their children out of the school – it’s that bad.”

The student body has not ruled out protesting the schools plans. “It’s getting to that stage,” the former prefect said. “People are trying to look at it in an intelligent way but there is so much anger out there.”

Wikinews understands that Fairbairn attracted criticism when he was a head teacher in Christchurch, New Zealand, where a former student claimed that Fairbairn “replaced the open and welcoming culture … with the tyrannical and oppressive one.”

When it comes to parts, being specific, being accurate and being precise is critical. If part or project requires this attention to detail then you need to use a CNC machine shop in MN to manufacture your parts and devices.

What does a CNC Machine Shop in MN Provide?

CNC is a specific term that stands for Computer Numerical Control. In other words, it is a computer based program that is actually operating the machine tools that are creating the part. By using a CNC machine shop in MN you are guaranteed that each part that is produced is identical, accurate and correct without any deviations or changes.

The computer program, which uses a specific language known as G-code, controls virtually all aspects of the part that is being produced. This includes the velocity of the tools, the feed rate, the location of specific aspects of the part and even the positioning of the part in relation to the tools being controlled by the computer program.

Each Piece Design is Unique

The first step that the professionals at a CNC machine shop in MN will complete is to make a CAD drawing (Computer-Aided Design) that the CNC program can read and utilize. This drawing is essential and can be produced in either two dimensional or three dimensional formats depending on the specific part or piece required. This development and design process will also include determining what metal or plastic is best suited to your specific project requirements.

Once the CAD drawing is completed and loaded in the CNC machine program a test is completed to ensure that the part produced is perfect to specifications. Ideally the part will be correct with this first test, but there may need to be slight adjustments made to the program. Any changes are made at this time if necessary. Once that is complete the program is saved and can be stored within the system until needed again.

Using a CNC machine shop in MN allows you to work directly with the company to create just the part of the parts that you need. Companies that have a lot of experience are invaluable in assisting in the design and development of parts or recreating existing parts to the exact specifications required.

A Japanese official has stated that Japan is opposed to re-entering into six-party talks between the United States, China, Russia, South Korea, and North Korea in regards to the N. Korean nuclear weapons program stating that N. Korea must “compromise.”

“It’s fine if North Korea can bring some contribution to peace, but simply starting talks is not meaningful,” said the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party’s policy research council in Japan, Shoichi Nakagawa.

“The situation has changed since the last six-party talks in September last year. North Korea has conducted missile test launches and undertaken a nuclear test. Talks shouldn’t re-open without careful consideration,” added Nakagawa. North Korea successfully tested a nuclear missile on October 9, 2006.

“[We expect] early and concrete results. We believe it is necessary for North Korea to show concrete actions toward the abandonment of all nuclear weapons and existing nuclear programs,” said Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minister of Japan.

Six-party talks are said to resume on December 18, 2006.

Tuesday, February 21, 2006Tangent Computer, a computer services and hardware company based in Burlingame, California has filed a lawsuit against Microsoft. The lawsuit filed on February 14, 2006 claims that Microsoft continues to breach federal antitrust laws.

Tangent alleges that Microsoft fosters tactics “to prevent and destroy competition” while raising prices of its software to “supra-competitive levels.” Tangent is arguing that the tactics are a violation of section 2 Sherman Antitrust Act, a federal law prohibiting unfair business practices and monopolies.

The lawsuit details legal issues which have faced Microsoft since the 1980s, and requests that an amount of monetary damages to be determined by a jury at a trial.

Tangent is an original equipment manufacturer who has purchased and installed Microsoft operating systems since 1995. In addition to their hardware business, they also provide Internet content monitoring, spam filtering, anti-spyware and adware solutions, network vulnerability assessments, active directory tools and migration services.

An HIV-positive man was sentenced to 35 years in prison Wednesday, one day after being convicted of harassment of a public servant for spitting into the eye and open mouth of a Dallas, Texas police officer in May 2006. The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that no one has ever contracted HIV from saliva, and a gay-rights and AIDS advocacy group called the sentence excessive.

A Dallas County jury concluded that Willie Campbell’s act of spitting on policeman Dan Waller in 2006 constituted the use of his saliva as a deadly weapon. The incident occurred while Campbell, 42, was resisting arrest while being taken into custody for public intoxication.

“He turns and spits. He hits me in the eye and mouth. Then he told me he has AIDS. I immediately began looking for something to flush my eyes with,” said Waller to The Dallas Morning News.

Officer Waller responded after a bystander reported seeing an unconscious male lying outside a building. Dallas County prosecutors stated that Campbell attempted to fight paramedics and kicked the police officer who arrested him for public intoxication.

It’s been 25 years since the virus was identified, but there are still lots of fears.

Prosecutors said that Campbell yelled that he was innocent during the trial, and claimed a police officer was lying. Campbell’s lawyer Russell Heinrichs said that because he had a history of convictions including similarly attacking two other police officers, biting inmates, and other offenses, he was indicted under a habitual offender statute. The statute increased his minimum sentence to 25 years in prison. Because the jury ruled that Campbell’s saliva was used as a deadly weapon, he will not be eligible for parole until completing at least half his sentence.

If you look at the facts of this case, it was clear that the defendant intended to cause serious bodily injury.

The organization Lambda Legal (Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund), which advocates for individuals living with HIV, says that saliva should not be considered a deadly weapon. Bebe Anderson, the HIV projects director at Lambda Legal, spoke with The Dallas Morning News about the sentence. “It’s been 25 years since the virus was identified, but there are still lots of fears,” said Anderson.

The Dallas County prosecutor who handled the trial, Jenni Morse, said that the deadly weapon finding was justified. “No matter how minuscule, there is some risk. That means there is the possibility of causing serious bodily injury or death,” said Morse. Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins stated: “If you look at the facts of this case, it was clear that the defendant intended to cause serious bodily injury.”

Contact with saliva, tears, or sweat has never been shown to result in transmission of HIV.

A page at the CDC’s website, HIV and Its Transmission, states: “HIV has been found in saliva and tears in very low quantities from some AIDS patients.” The subsection “Saliva, Tears, and Sweat” concludes that: “Contact with saliva, tears, or sweat has never been shown to result in transmission of HIV.” On Friday the Dallas County Health Department released a statement explaining that HIV is most commonly spread through sexual contact, sharing needles, or transfusion from an infected blood product.

Many people are increasingly seeking services of a cosmetic dentist. We all are given 32 teeth as adults. Teeth determine a lot, especially the face shape and consequently how one will look. Teeth also help us cut, tear and crush food. Unfortunately, the same teeth which work so well for us can also become a pain. This is when teeth start losing their color (discoloration) and also when the teeth decay.

The teeth which were very much appreciated can become a source of pain. Firstly, the pain can be literal because of decay and wearing out, which inflicts pain on the gum s nerve endings. Secondly, the teeth can also be a pain for the ridicule they attract your way because of discoloration. Some people do not even smile and also fear speaking in public because of the embarrassment the teeth cause them.

Following all these woes, this is where the skills and knowledge of a cosmetic dentist come handy. These specialists can transform your teeth, which will be necessary for self confidence. These specialists improve the appearance of your teeth, smile and gum.

The cosmetic dentist engages in his work in an artistic way because at the end of his work, it is much about the appearance of the client. However, be very careful in that there are some of them who are not fully qualified as cosmetic dentists, but use the same term to attract customers and may end up spoiling your dentition formula as they try to do work they are not qualified in.

Although this kind of practice is unethical, some people are still raking in lots of cash under this pretense. A qualified cosmetic dentist has special training and experience so they can whiten teeth, add materials on teeth like veneers and crowns, and also remove the tooth, tooth structure and gum for the overall better appearance of the client s dentition.

Some of the dental procedures done by these specialists require a short time, while others a long time and others also demand constant rechecking by these specialists to ensure the changes made are comfortable to the client since the mouth is a very sensitive part of the human body.

The professional specializing in this field must have special skills for a few reasons like for example, if the person chips off your teeth to make some changes, they must be precise on the size lest they chip off a big piece which leaves the client uglier than before. It is therefore important to add that a specialist in this profession must be careful as they work because the smile is the first thing people notice when they first meet a person. So the teeth create a huge impression on people and hence these professionals or whoever handles them should be very careful at all times.

In some regions, to get a credible professional in this field, a person should check the listings of such persons and go through their credentials for proper knowledge of the kind of work they can do. Always note that a cosmetic dentist is just part of the bigger term of dentistry which is a branch of medicine involving oral health and also its impact to the overall health of a human being.

A cosmetic surgeon should have a good background of human health, good eyesight to work in a closed environment (the mouth) and be patient with clients. He should be well educated, oriented to detail, great working ability using their hands and also be able to work with other people (interpersonal skills). It is indispensable for a cosmetic dentist to have before and after pictures of patients he or she has worked on as proof or profile of the caliber of work they deliver on.

Local media reported on Tuesday that a gold mine collapsed in northwestern Tanzania on Sunday, killing at least twenty people. According to reports, the incident occurred at Geita region when the 100-metre-deep shaft the miners were working in collapsed after being flooded by heavy seasonal rains. Some media reports say that thirty people might have been killed by the accident.

“I know there is no hope of finding anybody alive,” said Kelega Chacha, a miner who left the site soon before the mine’s collapse. “We will just have to look for the bodies to give them a decent burial.”

A local newspaper, The African, quoted Donald Mremi, the Geita District Mines Officer, as saying that rescue efforts were hampered due to poor equipment. The African also reported that a dozen of the bodies of the victims have already been identified.

Tanzania is the third largest producer of gold in Africa. Much of its output is produced by international firms running large operations. Smaller-scale mines, however, can be quite dangerous, and frequently lack proper safety equipment. Over 45 people were killed in a northern Tanzanian mine in 2008 after the mines they were working it were flooded. In another incident in 2002, a compressor used to provide miners inside the shafts broke down, causing those inside to suffocate.

The US economy added 173,000 jobs in August, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday. The unemployment rate fell from 5.3 to 5.1 percent, the lowest since April 2008.

Although August job gains were lower than most economists forecast, job growth numbers for June and July were revised upwards by a combined 44,000. Average job gains over the past three months stand at 221,000, compared to March-May’s 189,000 monthly average. Over the past twelve months, job growth has averaged 247,000 per month.

Average hourly earnings rose 0.3 percent, or 8 cents, marking the largest increase in earnings in seven months. Hourly earnings had risen by 6 cents in July. Wages have risen by 2.2 percent over the past year.

Job growth in August was primarily concentrated in the health care and social assistance, financial activities, and professional and business services sectors. Those three areas of the economy added a combined 108,000 jobs. Food service and drinking places employment increased by 26,000 over the month, and other economic sectors saw employment hold steady. Manufacturing, on the other hand, saw employment decline by 17,000 in August. A stronger dollar and worldwide economic weakness make US exports less desirable, leading to a flattening in manufacturing employment so far this year after steadily rising in the early years of the US economic recovery.

The solid overall job gains led analysts to slightly raise expectations for a decision by the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates this month. Investors raised the likelihood of a September rate increase from 26 percent before the jobs report to 30 percent, and stocks dropped by over one percent on Friday. “The payrolls data is certainly good enough to allow for a Fed rate hike in September,” said Deutsche Bank’s head of currency strategy, Alan Ruskin. “The big question is still whether financial market volatility will scupper the plans.”

“This is the first time the market has looked at a Fed meeting and really has no idea what the Fed is going to do,” said Mark Kepner, a New Jersey equity trader with Themis Trading. “Right now you’re looking at the overall uncertainty and that’s what’s hanging on the market. I don’t think this number in and of itself changes how somebody’s going to vote.”

Popular Serbian basketball player Aleksandar “Sasha” Djordjevic will play his last game in Belgrade on July 3. More then 60 players and coaches who worked with Djordjevic throughout his career will attend the game, and all ticket proceedings will go to the UNICEF “School without violence” program.

Djordjevic played in the Yugoslavian, Italian, Spanish and NBA leagues, as well as for the Yugoslavian national team. The 38 year-old won two European Championships and one World Championship. He is retireing as a player of Armani Jeans Milano and an MVP of the Lega A Basket.

“Everything hurts: my shoulder, elbow and joint. Everything ends, and so does a basketball career. They still have to invent medicines that would ease this pain,” said Djordjevic.

Croatian basketball player Dino Radja decided not to come to Belgrade. He told Djordjevic that he doesn’t want any booing, which would ruin the farewell game.
